  • The bib number pinned to the FRONT of whatever garment you will be wearing at the Finish Line, and the paper D-tag timing chip attached to the shoe (either foot).  It is important that every participant wear both the bib on the shirt and the plastic D-tag chip on the shoe.

  • You will be timed only if you correctly wear the plastic chip on your shoe. Afterwards, you can keep the tag as a memento, or recycle it in available buckets, or toss it.

Dublin Marathon

119 SECONDS TO VICTORY

Art Thompson story from the 2010 Dublin marathon

Art Thompson in Dublin 2010Last March, little did I know that the Run to the Pub would lead me to a couple of personal racing bests, the Dublin Marathon, and Black Gold. Thanks so much to Pub 317 for the memorable opportunities, and especially those final 119 seconds to victory.

You see, until last year, I had never done a marathon. So, I trained for Dublin. Months later, on an Irish Bank Holiday, I ran this Friendly Marathon. Friendly indeed, the crowd support was nothing short of amazing, and thousands of enthusiastic Dubliners, on holiday, cheered me along and through to the finish chute at Merrion Square. Hours later, my legs sore and me in need of further refueling, I limped-walked along the River Liffey to St. James Gate, to my namesake Arthur's 250-year-old store-house. To Arthur!

There, seven floors up, in the most magnif-icent pub in the world, and surrounded by stunning 360-degree views of Dublin City, I ordered, and waited, and my legs screamed. For exactly 119 seconds. It was a classical Guinness double pour. Black Gold. A perfect pint, my personal victory lap, and a rewarding, comforting finish to a Bono-like Beautiful Day.

Cheers to John Amsden and Pub 317 for an unforgettable Dublin Marathon travel adventure. I'll be ready for the Run to the Pub in 2011, for sure. Erin go bragh.

Art Thompson, 2010 Dublin Marathon, 4:24:51.

Race Info/FAQ

I am injured and cannot participate. Can I have my money refunded?
You have the option of transferring your registration to another runner, or your own registration to another year, for a $20 administration fee. There are no refunds.

Toilets
There are port-a-potties at each Start, the Finish.  Every year we add more port-a-potties, but we suggest you take care of your business early; there is always a line 5 minutes before the start!

Safety
The course is coned and marked very well, but it is open to traffic. There will be volunteers and police officers at some intersections. Please run or walk on the right side of the road unless otherwise directed. Because the course is open to traffic, we discourage music devices. Baby joggers are allowed, but we ask that you start toward the back.

Bus Shuttle
There is NO parking at either the 10k or Half Marathon start. The bus pickup is at Babcock. There is free parking at the Parking Garage and it is 2 blocks from the finish line.

What can I expect for temperatures?
Well it is Bozeman MT, your guess is as good as ours.

Can I have a friend pick up my race packet for me?
Yes, you may.

Can I run with an iPod or other device?
The course is open to traffic. We strongly discourage compromising your ability to hear vehicles coming.

Will there be a way for my clothing to get transported from the start to finish?
Yes, a bus will transport any items that you bring out to the start
back to the finish and put in the “clothing pick up” area.

Where can I park, and leave my car during the race?
There is a parking garage on the corner of N. Black and E. Mendenhall,
that’s 3 blocks from the start.

Allison Curtin's story from the
2011 Dublin Marathon

in Dublin 2011

I will never be able to express my many thanks to John and Pub 317 for putting on such a wonderful race and in doing so giving away a trip of a lifetime! When I decided to participate in the Run to the Pub race, I never in a million years believed that my name would be drawn, but lo and behold, it did! Obviously this was an experience that I was not going to miss out on!

The Dublin Marathon 2011 was the fourth marathon that I had run in my lifetime.  I was determined to get my personal best time and qualify for the Boston Marathon. I had read about this course and it was supposed to be flat and fast. This year’s Dublin “Friendly” Marathon had over 14,000 participants, a new record. We were all packed in like sardines until mile eighteen, but the course was gorgeous and the spectators were unbelievable; so positive and cheerful. I was really getting a kick out of their passionate cheers such as (say these in your head in an Irish accent) “Brilliant job! Brilliant!” or “You’re NEARLY there! YOU’RE NEARLY THERE!!!” Unfortunately I did not get my personal best time, but I did reach one part of my goal and qualify for the Boston Marathon. I left the m

Now that the hard part of the trip was behind me, the real fun could begin! My boyfriend, Zach, and I rented a car and left Dublin to go tour the countryside of Ireland. For those of you who don’t know, in Ireland you drive on the opposite side of the road and they also drive FAST; therefore I decided to just be a passenger; that way I could enjoy all the beautiful greenery that is the Irish countryside. We saw many sights, including the Blarney Castle, the Guinness Factory, and the Gardens at Powerscourt to name a few. We also took a day to fish for Pike, something I had never done.

The trip was truly a once in a lifetime experience that I will never forget. Thank you again to John and Pub 317 for a chance to do something truly special. Who knows, maybe my sister Suzanne’s name will be drawn at this year’s Run to the Pub on Saturday March 17th and I could go again!
